CatalacModifications

This will be a list and record of the more unusual Catalac modifications

If you have a modification you can record here.. please let us know!

Bowsprits

Bowsprits are a very popular and effective modification. They allow use of a much larger genoa in lighter winds.

Bow Modifications

Bow - Rudders!

Bow - Bulbs, big tanker style!

Twin Outboards

Many "outboard" Catalacs have been fitted with twin outboards, although the single 9.9 High Thrust is arguably completely adequate. Some modifications are more successful than others!

Meander (8m) has a very sucessful and unusual twin OB arrangement, with twin (originally 6hp) outboards mounted wide in the main hulls. They can retract for better sailing. She also has the single center outboard, although this is not used. Meander was the last 8m built and has many differences from the standard boats. She now has twin electric start 9.9hp, as the owner informs us that leaning down to do the pull start was getting harder with time!

Planing Catalac

Sandray was fitted with twin 60hp outboards, and had her hull modified at the stern to allow her to plane. The (new) owner informs me that the total of 210L fuel tanks fitted in the extra box on the bow are rather too expensive to fill, so he is not planning on using the full potential of the engines in his ownership!! see video.
